I worked with Shantha during his time heading IHG's Resorts portfolio where Shantha built a reputation for grounded leadership, inspirational drive & his mentoring abilities. At such senior roles within any organisation, professionalism & talent are a given but what differentiated Shantha was his ability to push the boundaries of the conventional and challenge both internal & external thinking around hotel operations. Testament to Shantha's success are the resort openings in the Maldives & Phuket which have become benchmarks for future resorts in many respects. On a personal level, Shantha is a mentor with which I have always found it easy to bounce off ideas (however far-fetched they might initially sound). Shantha's candour in these discussions made for refreshing discussions which helped to sharpen my actions and ultimately shaped my career progression.
